Amazing Scavenger Quest on Catalina Island or City of Choice Description

Very Important Catalina Phone Service Information:
Due to connectivity issues this tour is not available to customers using Sprint or T-Mobile as their cell service provider.

How It Works:

After you order the Scavenger Quest, you will be sent an E-Ticket with your confirmation number and a website address to visit and enter that confirmation number to register your team and schedule your game/tour. You can place multiple orders under different names to create a competition between several teams.

When you register your team, you also have the flexibility of choosing to take your Amazing Scavenger Quest in any city where it's available. Currently, that list of cities in the U.S. and Canada includes: Atlanta, Boston, Catalina Island, Dallas, Denver, Hollywood, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco, Vancouver and Washington DC. Other cities are on the drawing board, too.

One person can do the Quest on their own, but Scavenger Quests are designed for enjoyment by groups of 2 to 5 persons per team.

You do not have to choose the actual date of your Quest until later, so the Quest is an excellent gift choice for someone.

Catalina Options:

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long will this take?
Each City Quest is unique and the time it will take depends on whether you are playing for points and speed or enjoying it at a more casual pace. In general, the Quest will take you approximately 2.5-3.5 hours without counting stops for food, snacks, or general sightseeing. Plan the day accordingly to allow completion of your Quest within daylight hours.

Is the price per-person or per-team?
The price is a flat rate PER TEAM. It is recommended that teams be comprised of 2 to 5 persons.

Can I purchase now and play later?
Absolutely! You can purchase your Quest days, weeks or months before your adventure. It makes a great gift for someone - just make the purchase in their name and provide them with the E-Ticket when you receive it. When the team is ready to play, they simply follow the directions on the E-Ticket to register their game/tour and they can then go to the start location and get underway.

How do I know where the Quest will start in a specific city?
The general start location for each city will be listed on the E-Ticket and detailed instructions to the start location of every Quest will be provided once your Quest is registered and scheduled. The instructions will often advise as to available parking and other public transportation options which are available.

Are there other costs involved?
Yes, other costs may be involved depending on the specific Quest location selected. These costs are generally limited to minor public transportation fares - but on Catalina Island, participants choose Walking (no required extra fees), Biking (bike rental or bring own bicycle required) or Golf Cart (cart rental required).

How many people can be on one team?
As many people as you like...however, the Quest is typically best with no more than 4 to 5 people on each team.

When is the best time to play?
Each Quest has been developed to be run during daylight hours. Given the estimated run time provided for each location, the team should ensure a start time that allows for adequate completion of the Quest during daylight hours. Teams often stop to tour and investigate other sights, break for lunch or simply enjoy the area. These factors should be considered when planning your Quest start time.

What kind of handheld device can I use?
Any type of handheld device that can access the internet through the use of a cellular service provider will work. Devices that can only access the internet by connecting via WiFi hotspots will not work as access to the game software cannot be guaranteed as you navigate through the city. Your Quest requires accessing proprietary software via the internet and utilizing search engines to assist in solving puzzles and researching clues. Having TWO internet capable devices — one for the game and one to look up information - is not necessary. . .but it can be helpful!

Will I need to download software into my mobile device?
No. The game software runs directly from the internet and does not require any software downloads or purchase of other apps.

How do I connect to the Quest Software to play the game?
Your E-Ticket will provide the website address to access for registering your Quest, and you will use your smart phone to connect to your Internet browser when you arrive at the starting location, to go to the same website and start your Quest.

Special Note for iPhone Users: In order to access your Quest, be sure your phone is set to block cookies from the website. Go to Settings > Safari > Block Cookies > From Third Parties and Advertisers.

Is there an age requirement?
There is no specific age requirement and the Scavenger Quest appeals to wide range of ages. Families have a great time doing Quests. However, before bringing a teething 2-year-old or that friend with a bad ankle, consider that the Quest is generally a walking tour that can range between 2-3 miles and take 2.5-3.5 hours depending on your pace of play.

How strenuous is the game?
This is difficult to gauge because each individual has varying degrees of stamina. However, the Quest will take place in and around the city, using public transportation when the distances between locations become too long for a reasonable walk. Each Quest location is unique but generally the Quests require walking no more than 2-3 miles with many stops to complete challenges.

What items should I bring?
We suggest bringing water, snacks, money, a city map, calculator, pencil & paper and of course, at least one FULLY CHARGED Smart Phone.

How is the Quest scored?
30 points are available for each question. 5 points will be deducted for each incorrect answer. You can attempt to answer each question a maximum of 4 times. 5 points will be deducted for each HINT used. If after 4 attempts you have not answered correctly, the answer will be provided to you. 15 points are awarded for correct bonus answers. No points are deducted for wrong bonus answers. Only one attempt is allowed for each Bonus question. Final score and positioning against other teams is to be determined first, by the point total, and second, by the time it took to complete the Quest from start to finish. Your score and time will be provided upon completion of your last question and posted online. Position rankings against other teams are posted on the Leader Board for individual cities.

How can I compete against another team?
Competing against another team can occur on the same day or different days, since each team runs the Quest using their own unique confirmation code. Point totals and times determine the winning team and are displayed when you finish the Quest.

Can I stop the Quest and continue later?
Yes. You can enter and exit the Quest as many times as you like. Upon re-entry, you will be returned to your last uncompleted question or location within the Quest software. You can then proceed with your Quest. However, the time clock measuring your completion will continue until the final question is answered.

Will I learn anything on this tour?
Hopefully! You will be visiting a number of great locations within your selected city, learning little known facts or visiting unique areas. At selected points in the Quest, you will be provided bits of Questology for those who enjoy knowing more about the monument they might have just walked past. In addition, the game may provide insights regarding local restaurants and other points of interest.

Can I use the back button on my mobile device?
Actually, no. The game is designed to keep you moving forward. Hitting the back button on your phone can cause a system error. Should this occur, simply close out of your browser, open a new browser window and go back to the game website. Then log in with your user name and password. You will be taken back to the game at the same place you exited.

24 Hours Minimum Advance Booking Required. This tour does NOT offer hotel pick-up. Biking and Golf Cart options require providing those conveyances on your own, which usually entails a rental fee NOT included in the price. Please order online or call to order or for more information.
